Public input is an important part of the City of Campbellsville’s decision-making process. City Council welcomes residents to speak on matters of public concern in a respectful and orderly manner that serves the greater public interest.
Who May Speak
Speakers must be residents of the City of Campbellsville.
How to Sign Up
Sign up at City Hall by Wednesday prior to the scheduled Council meeting.
When signing up, please provide:
Your name
Your city address
The topic or matter of concern
A copy of the “Speaking at a City Council Meeting” guideline should be picked up at City Hall.
Presentation Guidelines
Speakers may not use props, displays, or objects during presentations.
Any materials intended for Council review must be submitted to the City Clerk prior to the meeting for distribution.
At a single meeting, up to four speakers may address the same topic:
Two in support
Two in opposition
Time Limits
Community speakers are allowed up to three (3) minutes to speak.
The Council may, at its discretion:
Extend the time limit, or
Request additional information at a later date
Council Members do not need to sign up and are allotted three (3) minutes to speak at the end of the meeting.
At the Council Meeting
When called to speak, please:
State your name and city address
Clearly explain your concern
Be prepared to present your comments clearly and respectfully
Address the full Council, not individual members
Stay on topic and avoid personal attacks or disruptive behavior
Refrain from electioneering or promoting commercial products or services
Failure to follow these guidelines may be addressed by an officer.
Signs in the Audience
Audience members may display signs no larger than 8½ x 11 inches.
Signs may not be attached to sticks or handles.
Signs must not obstruct the view of other attendees.
Repeat Speakers
Individuals who have previously spoken on a topic may speak again after two (2) consecutive Council meetings have passed since their last appearance.
The City Clerk maintains a record of speaker dates.
