Press Release: Campbellsville Water to Begin Hydrant Flushing Sept. 1

Press Release

Starting September 1, 2026, Campbellsville Municipal Water will kick off scheduled hydrant flushing throughout the city. Here’s the official press release with everything residents need to know, including what to expect and how to handle any temporary water discoloration.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Campbellsville Municipal Water will begin scheduled hydrant flushing starting September 1, 2026.

What is Hydrant Flushing?

Hydrant flushing is a routine maintenance activity that introduces fresh water throughout the water distribution system, to remove any mineral, and rust deposits from the pipes. This process also ensures that fire hydrants are fully functional and ready for emergency use.

What to Expect During Flushing

During the flushing process, residents may notice water discoloration in their taps, or water sputtering from their faucets. This discoloration is temporary and only affects the appearance of the water, not its quality.

What Residents Should Do:

  • Run cold water: If you notice discolored water in your home, run the cold water from your faucets for several minutes until it runs clear.
  • Avoid laundry: To prevent staining, it’s best to avoid washing light-colored laundry until the water clears.

Why is Hydrant Flushing Important?

This process is essential for maintaining the overall quality and reliability of our water system, and ensuring the proper operation of fire hydrants for public safety.
