The Code Enforcement Department helps ensure properties within the City of Campbellsville meet minimum maintenance and safety standards. These standards protect public health, preserve property values, and support the overall quality of life in our neighborhoods.

By enforcing the City’s Property Maintenance Ordinance and related regulations, Code Enforcement works to keep Campbellsville a safe, clean, and welcoming place to live and work.

Department Responsibilities

The Code Enforcement Department is responsible for enforcing local ordinances related to property maintenance and related codes. These efforts help address issues that may impact safety, appearance, and livability throughout the city.

This includes:

  • Enforcing the Property Maintenance Ordinance

  • Responding to property maintenance complaints

  • Issuing citations for code violations when necessary

  • Supporting compliance through education and enforcement

  • Assisting with permits and ordinance-related applications

Common Code Violations

Illegal Signs: Signs are not allowed in public right-of-way areas such as streets, sidewalks, medians, utility poles, or traffic fixtures.

Open Storage: Open storage of items like inoperable vehicles, auto parts, appliances, scrap materials, or trash is not permitted on residential property.

Vegetation: Property owners must keep grass, weeds, and overgrowth under control. Grass and weeds may not exceed twelve (12) inches in height.

Vacant & Accessory Structures: Vacant buildings, garages, and sheds must be secured and maintained. Some structures may require repair or removal for safety.

Grass & Brush Disposal: Yard waste may not be dumped on streets, sidewalks, or into drainage areas, as it can cause flooding and block storm drains.

Permits & Approvals: Permits may be required for construction, demolition, signs, decks, garages, or similar projects. Contact Planning & Zoning if unsure.

Junk, Litter & Debris: Properties must be kept free of junk, litter, and debris, including furniture, tires, construction materials, and yard waste.

Address Numbers: Address numbers must be clearly visible from the street to help emergency responders locate a property quickly.

Inoperable Vehicles: Inoperable or unlicensed vehicles may not be stored on residential property. Repairs must be done inside approved structures.
